For five or six years ago I listened to Mr. Prof.Sir Richard Friend at a lecture he had at Gothenburg Science festival, he had been invited for having a lecture about his first
research in OLED technology in Cambridge U.K, prof.Richard Friend took his first
patents in OLED in 1989. Prof.Richard Friend is cofinder of CDT (Cambridge Display Technology) which was sold to a japanese chemistry company last year.
He also sad that it would be great if a larger company
would start mass manufactoring of OLED display´s before his patent would be
expiled. But now we all know that larger OLED display´s will not come to market
before 2009. I wonder more of the OLED research history, I have read before that
Kodak and Motorola were two companies which were very early in OLED research.

But later years I have read that CDT and american Universaldisplay have been the
two companies with many patents in their portfolio.
Samsung have taken licens of Universaldisplay´s patents in OLED technology.
samsung have also bought the small american company Clairvoyante Inc. with
ther very interested PenTile RGBW technology (why haven´t anyone before invented
the RGBW technology?) because the RGBW with the W for White subpixel is a briliant
idea!
